Those Darn Triggers — and the Gift They Hold

This past week, I noticed how often “triggers” surfaced — in myself, in conversations with men I work with, and in the stories people around me were carrying. And here’s the truth: it’s not just a “men’s thing.” These patterns live in all of us.

What struck me most was how a simple quote I shared on social media kept echoing back:

“Defensiveness is mastered when we can tell the difference between what’s happening now and the past stories or wounds that color our reaction.”

The moment we pause and ask, “Am I reacting to the present, or to a ghost from the past?” we start to gain freedom. Our triggers are teachers. They shine a light on the parts of ourselves that still need healing, integration, or simply awareness.

Instead of running from them, we can lean in and use them as a doorway to growth — whether that’s in our relationships, our work, our health, or even how we show up for ourselves in the quiet moments.

This week, I invite you to notice where your own triggers show up. Rather than judging them, get curious. What story are they pointing you toward? And more importantly, what’s possible when you stop letting old wounds drive today’s choices?

πŸ“… Things Ahead This Week

1. Implement, Elevate & Ascend

Last week I uploaded two new marketing trainings — one on using the power of nostalgia, and the other on marketing one-to-many.

This week, we’re unleashing a brand-new module that can open doors to growth in surprising ways — while also helping you uncover hidden speed blocks that may be slowing you down right now.

4. In Case You Missed It

Last week, Lauren Castle and I joined Todd Eury on the Pharmacy Podcast to dive into the Tylenol debate. We’re on for about 30 minutes of the show — definitely worth a listen if you missed it.

🧭 Tip of the Week: From Trigger to Teacher

When you feel that defensive surge, here’s a simple nervous system reset tool to help you shift:

πŸ‘‰ Try the 4-7-8 breath:

  • Inhale through your nose for 4 seconds

  • Hold for 7 seconds

  • Exhale slowly through your mouth for 8 seconds

Repeat this for 3–4 rounds.
It helps your body move out of “fight-or-flight” and into a calmer, more centered state.

Why it matters: Your nervous system doesn’t know the difference between an actual threat and an old story being replayed. This breath helps you create space between stimulus and response — so your trigger can become a teacher rather than a tyrant.

🌍 Spotlight: Ecosystem Feature

This week’s spotlight is on Beyond the Labs / Functional Pharmacy University.

One of the biggest wins I see with our members is how quickly they go from information overload → implementation clarity.

Just last week, a pharmacist in our community shared how she finally felt confident explaining hormone testing results to her patients — something she used to avoid out of fear of “not knowing enough.”

That’s the power of structured training + community + support.

If you’ve been sitting on the fence, now’s the time to jump in.
