Sunday Sessions with Rob: The Second Mountain
Aug 24, 2025
There’s no map for this thing called life. At 55, if there’s one truth I’ve learned, it’s that nobody gets handed an instruction manual. We’re all just winging it, connecting the dots as we go—sometimes with clarity, sometimes with confusion, but always with meaning hidden in the margins.
Looking back, I see how easy it was to wander from my childhood path. Life and society have a way of nudging us off course, layering on expectations, responsibilities, and stories that aren’t always ours. For years, I followed the script—chasing wins, learning from losses, collecting lessons, and occasionally picking up symbolism in the most unlikely places.
But here’s the real twist: midlife isn’t an endpoint. It’s an invitation. Some call it the “Chiron’s return”—that moment when what really matters circles back and taps you on the shoulder. For me, the last seven years have been a slow (sometimes stubborn) awakening. I’ve realized that the second mountain of life isn’t about chasing what’s next; it’s about reclaiming what’s always been there. The purpose, the passion, the kid inside me who knew exactly what felt right.
Honestly, there are days I get it, and days I don’t. But that’s okay. The beautiful thing about life is that the clues are always there—if we’re willing to look. So this Sunday, I’m reminding myself (and maybe you, too): don’t ignore what’s calling you back. The second mountain is waiting, and it’s never too late to climb.
Here’s to connecting the dots, one day at a time.
